Solo Performance Evaluation
Wednesday 22nd May
Today I performed my solo singing performance. I chose to perform the song 'Honey Honey' which is from Mamma Mia the musical and film. I had to perform it twice. The first time I didnt characterize the song atall and think this was down to nerves. But in the next try of the song I feel it was much better. I developed it by instead of having just me on the staging, I used 2 year 13s who were members of the audience. They sat with me and gave me people to interact with and to ensure I was characterizing the song enough.
I dont feel my singing was loud enough, I could of improved my singing by simply doing it louder. Also if I had more confidence I feel I would be able to sing loudly and proudly.

My first song choice is Honey Honey from Mamma Mia
I
like that this song is upbeat and happy as I feel personally I can act
better when its happy as find it hard not to smile. This song is better
as a group song having people to act around with and also to create
harmonys but it does work as a solo.
I
am worrier about the 2 large instrumentals as this would leave a large
time where all the attention would just be on my acting.
I think creating actions and acting would be easy for this song as I can just act along with the words.

SONG DEVELOPMENT
I am thinking of changing my song to Electricity from Billy Elliot.
I like this song and feel confident in knowing a strong knowledge of the background of the character meaning I could characterise it well. I am worried as its a song sung by a boy so the character is a boy. Also there is a strong accent in the song which I can do but am worried I may loose the accent half way through.
The way to work on these points is simply practise and practise.

'Mooning' rehearsal with Lena
Today Sarah and I had a one to one with Lena going over the song 'Mooning' for Grease. This was a very helpful session. Due to many reasons I feel there has been a lack of really going over some of the songs in depth. We began by simply singing through the song once. This enabled Lena to see what needs changing and developing. The main point Lena noticed with my singing was that I was cutting of the words very short, I needed to hold the notes for longer. Also that I needed to join my words together to take away the stacato feel I was giving to the song.
Also a problem was my volume. As no one is getting mics its crucil that I sing loud enough for the audience to hear me over the music. I think that once I gain more confidence with singing on my own and with the song it will allow me to start projecting my voice more.
Overall this was a very helpful session and left me with lots to improve on.

Choerographing movements for Mooning'
Sarah and I decided the choreography to the duet 'Mooning' from Grease.
We wanted to make the movements simple so it didnt take away the attention from the song and also to make sure we can both perform the singing and dancing well rather than trying to over do it.
We chose movements that fit with the lyrics. Its very suprising how hard it is to remember the movements and lyrics. It takes more energy and breath and does make your brain do a few things at once.
With lots of practise we will be able to perform it fine I think.

Unsucceful Grease rehearsal
Thursday 24th January 2013
I dont feel todays lesson was very successful, we didnt get much work done and I feel what we did get done will be forgotten and have to be re done. There seemed to be a lot of confusion at parts where we disagreed on how it should be sung. Using the cd is at time helpful but also you can make it quite hard. You cant tell which character is which when theyre singing so its very hard to tell when your meant to be singing. I think more time needs to be spent working with individuals and small groups. We have spent a few lessons where weve been left to work indivudually on the songs but I dont feel this has helped us at all, you need the one to one attention to really work on a song.
